Today was a sad day for many "All My Children" soap opera fans. The final "All My Children" show aired on Friday, September 23, 2011. The popular soap opera has been on the air since January 5, 1970 and actress Susan Lucci was a long time cast member, playing the role of Erica Kane. Susan Lucci was the only remaining original cast member to appear in the show finale. Many fans have left comments online today talking about how they will miss the show that they grew up watching with their parents and siblings. Soap operas are losing popularity and are being replaced by reality TV and cooking shows which television networks believe have a greater appeal to modern day women.
