The congregation had been planning to burn the sacred Islamic books at 6 p.m. on September 11, 2010. The Reverend created an international controversy after announcing his Quran burning intentions. Government officials were concerned that the Quran burning event would endanger U.S. troops and be used as an al Qaeda recruiting tool. On September 10, 2010 president Obama publicly shared his disapproval for Rev. Terry Jones plans. The majority of the public was outraged at the Reverend's plans. The Reverend is now being monitored by a security team in New York since he is at high risk for attack.
