Ikea Furniture Listed In "21 Things You Should Never Buy New" Article

Ikea furniture is topping today's Internet search trends after an article titled "21 Things You Should Never Buy New" was published on "U.S. News.com."

The article includes typical items people purchase at second-hand stores, such as books, CDs, DVDs and video games. It also mentions formal clothing, jewelery, craft supplies and even pets.

Ikea furniture made the list but I'm not sure that Ikea furniture would actually last long enough to be resold to someone new. Just about every cheap piece of Ikea furniture I've purchased ended up breaking within 6 months to a year.

Oksana Abuse Allegations and Restraining Order Against Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson's ex-girlfriend Oskana Grigorieva claims that the actor beat her up in January 2010, knocking out her teeth and giving her a concussion. Gibson's lawyers (and some of his fans) believe that Oskana is coming up with a series of lies to make Mel look bad, while others believe the woman is telling the ugly truth. Oksana has dental records to back up her story, and apparently she also has secret tapes of arguments she has had with her ex Mel Gibson. She plans to use the audio tapes as evidence in her court case against Mel.

Oksana Grigorieva recently got a domestic violence restraining order against Mel Gibson, but she did not report the alleged abuse incident at the time it happened. The couple broke up in May, 2010 and have joint custody of their daughter Lucia.

Eleven Russian spies have been picked up by U.S. authorities and the news story sounds much like a spy movie. The Russian spies have been working in the United States undetected for ten years. How To Paint Plastic Lawn Furniture

If you don't use patio furniture covers then your plastic lawn furniture will probably not last more than a single season. There are paints made specifically for plastic lawn furniture, so before you buy a brand new patio set, try out some of the following tips on how to restore your plastic lawn furniture so it looks as good as new.

Remove any dirt from your plastic outdoor furniture by washing it thoroughly, then gently sand down the furniture with a fine grain sandpaper. The paint will have trouble sticking to the plastic surface of furniture without being sanded down first. After sanding furniture use a cloth to wipe off the dust. Cover the lawn furniture with a primer before painting. Choose a primer that is designed specifically for plastic furniture. Follow the directions listed on the primer container.

Once lawn furniture is thoroughly dry then begin to apply the first coat of paint. Make sure to use a paint designed for plastic and the outdoor elements. Once the first coat is dry apply a second coat of paint to plastic furniture.Once your furniture is dry it should look as good as new. If you want this new new look to last then use patio furniture covers to protect your outdoor furniture from the harsh elements.

Oprah Hates The Handicapped - Rumors Of Rigged Voting

Oprah Winfrey is one of the most generous and caring celebrities there is but for the past two day Internet rumors accuse her of vote rigging and now hating the handicapped. I don't think there is an ounce of hatred in Oprah's body and she certainly would never hate someone because they are handicapped, so why on earth would people be saying such a horrible thing?

It all started on June 22 when she was accused of rigging the votes in her Oprah Winfrey Network reality show contest. Contestants audition online for a chance to become a reality show host. One of the contestants Zach Anner who has cerebral palsy was in the lead but quickly moved to second place. Some of Zach Anner's fans claimed that his votes were actually being reduced and that the contest was rigged. Since it's Oprah's contest some began to immediately point the finger at her, saying that Oprah Winfrey rigged the votes. Today the rumors continue saying that she rigged the voting because she hates the handicapped.


Oprah Winfrey does not have the time to rig contest votes. Any Oprah Winfrey fan knows that she is not computer savvy and wouldn't even know how to rig the votes.Oprah would never approve of her staff rigging votes either. Most likely, if there were voting errors it was nothing more than a technical glitch. Zach Anner fans need to contact OWN and explain that they have noticed a problem with voting instead of throwing around unrealistic and offensive accusations.

Backyard Pool - Swimming Safety Tips

Most kids love to spend the warm summer months swimming in backyard pools. You may be with your child while he is swimming or it may be a babysitter, or the parents of your child's friends in charge of swimming supervision. Here are several water safety tips that every parent or babysitter should know.

Children Must Be Supervised 

Proper adult supervision is the key to water safety. If the adult needs to go into the house to answer the phone or grab something, than the children need to get out of the water until the adult returns. Children are not only at risk for drowning but they may hit their head, get severe cramps or injure themselves in some other way. Swimming pool accidents can happen in an instant so it is never safe to leave children unattended. It is always better to be safe rather than sorry.

Take Swimming Lessons, First Aid and CPR Courses

Teach children the proper water safety rules. Enroll them in a water safety class and certified swimming lessons which include first aid, water rescue and CPR. Do not let young children go into the pool alone even if they have had swimming lessons. Get into the pool with them. Young children should use flotation devices or a life jacket even if you are directly supervising them.Make sure children understand diving rules. Many in ground pools and the majority of above ground pools are not suitable for safe diving.

Be Prepared

Have the appropriate safety equipment and instructions nearby. Parents and babysitters should take a CPR and First Aid course and have the proper life saving and medical supplies located near the pool in case of emergency. Teach children how to call 911 in case of emergency so if you are preoccupied with helping an injured child, another child could call for help.

If you are not certain whether your child will be supervised at a friend's pool than don't let your child go swimming there, it isn't worth the risk.

Free Pianos On The Streets of New York

For the next week there will be sixty pianos out on the streets of New York City and anyone who wants to, can play them for free. Luke Jerram came up with the idea and formed the art project "Play Me, I'm Yours." The non-profit organization "Sing for Hope" also helped out. The pianos have already been on the streets for a week and musical New Yorkers of all ages have been enjoying showing off their talents.

New "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" Theme Park Opens

Three "Harry Potter" stars visited the Universal Orlando theme park on Friday, June 18, 2010 to partake in the opening ceremonies of a new movie theme park "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" theme park. Thousands of die hard Harry Potter fans were thrilled to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and several other of the actors in person.

The new Orlando movie theme park has brought the Harry Potter books and movies to life by including the details of the story in the rides. Harry Potter fans from all over the world will likely be planning their Orlando vacations this summer. If you have never been to the Universal theme park in Orland, Florida you should visit one day, it is fun and amazing place for movie lovers.

New Study Says Fat People Are Messy and Lazy

A new study has revealed that there may be a link between obesity and cleanliness and it's creating quite a bit of controversy. The MSN article releasing the study's findings compared the study to the reality TV series "Hoarders," saying that the many of the pack rats featured on the show are overweight. Since most of the hoarders suffer from "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" or other mental illnesses and past traumas I think it's pretty insulting to say that being overweight equals a messy home. Hoarders homes are not messy, they are unlivable, and the homes featured on "Hoarders" are not a result of laziness.

The "Hoarders" comment is insulting but the actual study details aren't much better. According to the study thinner people are more likely to have a clean home while overweight people have a messy one. The study was conducted on 998 African Americans between the ages of 49 and 65 who have a high socio-economic status. Based on the participants answers and home evaluations the thinner, more active people had cleaner homes. Researches now want to find out why people with clean houses tend to be more physically active.

This study doesn't make much sense to me. It's creating a negative stereotype in a day in age where stereotypes need to be abolished. Perhaps certain members of society will never judge people as individuals, when putting down entire groups of people makes them feel superior.

Abby Sunderland is a United States teenager who wanted to be just like her older brother Zach, who successfully sailed around the world by himself before the age of 18. Abby left for her solo journey around the world on February 6, 2010 hoping to break the world record for youngest worldwide sailor. The teen has even been working on a book to be released after the completion of her voyage. On June 10, 2010 Abby Sunderland hit rough weather while in the Indian Ocean and she activated her emergency distress beacons. Search and rescue teams are currently looking for the lost teen.

I first heard of Gary Coleman's Death Pictures today while watching the talk show "The View." Host Whoopi Goldberg was so disgusted that the tabloid would release the Gary Coleman hospital pictures that she didn't even disclose the paper's name. Just about everyone suspected that it was Gary Coleman's ex-wife Shannon Price (whom he stilled lived with at the time of his death) who sold the photos to The Globe, and according to the celebrity website TMZ, Shannon Price attempted to sell the deathbed pictures to them first but they turned her down.

Gary Coleman's last wishes were to have only those who had no financial interest in him to attend his funeral. The Globe deathbed photos are exactly the kind of thing that repulsed Gary Coleman while he was alive. I'm sure that any true Gary Coleman fan won't be purchasing a copy of the tabloid who exploited him in such a horrible way.

Now some people want to know why the tot's mother thought it was OK to put make-up and handcuffs on her child and place the video online for everyone to see. Gary Coleman 911 Call - Shannon Price Calls 911 - Audio Clip

Gary Coleman's wife Shannon Price called 911 after she found her husband laying in a pool of blood. People are shocked that she did not do more to try to help her husband after his fall. After listening to the 911 recording I'm pretty shocked myself. I am totally terrified of accidents and blood, and I tend to panic but no matter how freaked out I would be I would listen to the 911 operator and do whatever she said in order to help my husband. Everybody is different though and for whatever reason Shannon Price waited for help to arrive and help her husband. Looking back at the incident, she probably regrets not rushing to Gary Coleman's side.

Toddlers and Tiaras Show - Should Children Be In Beauty Pageants?

After watching five minutes of the new TLC show "Toddlers and Tiaras" I had to turn the channel. The sheer selfishness of the parents is too much for me to handle. I mean seriously, are we really supposed to believe that the parents of pageant children are doing it all for their kids? I'm sure that some of the older girls enjoy dressing up and learning the routines, but some of these mothers take competition to the extreme.

If these children grow up with such a huge emphasis on their looks then what will happen to their self-esteem when they get older. What if (heaven forbid) they are not beautiful when they grow up. What about those awkward teen years? Will they be able to deal with that? Hopefully they won't be popping diet pills and signing up for plastic surgery in high school. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but seeing super-tanned two-year- olds wearing five pounds of make-up just doesn't seem right to me. What do you think? Are beauty pageants for children harmless or should they only be for teens and adults?

Tipper Gore and Al Gore are separating after a 40 year long marriage. According to recent news reports the Al and Tipper Gore have mutually agreed to call it quits. So far there has been no scandalous news reports regarding the reason for the couples divorce.

The couples separation announcement comes as a shock to many of their fans. This recent photograph shows the couple embracing at a recent event. It's sad to see such a long marriage come to end, but who knows, perhaps Al and Tipper Gore will end up reconciling.
