The long running soap opera Guiding Light has been cancelled by CBS. The radio version of the show was created by Irna Phillips in 1937 and later moved to television in 1952. It is the longest running soap opera.
The decision to end the soap was made after years of steadily declining viewers. The show originally tried to cut back on filming expenses to save the show but it was not enough. The last episode of Guiding Light will air on September 18, 2009.
I love Soap Operas but like most of today's modern women I don't have time during the day to watch an hour long show and I couldn't be bother taping it. I think that if Soap Operas moved to the evenings they'd have a better chance at maintaining viewers. I'd hate to think that the days of soap operas are ending.
