6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Alaska - January 24 2009
A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Alaska today at 2:00 pm. That's quite an earthquake for Anchorage Alaska but it's not the first time that the state has experienced an earthquake. Alaska's biggest earthquake was a whopping 9.2 magnitude and caused a huge amount of damage when it hit Anchorage on Friday March 27, 1964. As you can see in this old photograph of the 1964 earthquake 9.2 on the Richter scale is very destructive. Today's 6.1 is more of a tremor. No word yet on any Alaska earthquake damage.
