American Airlines Has No Sympathy For Autistic Boy

A 2 1/2-year-old autistic boy, Jarett Farell, and his mother were kicked off an American Eagle flight this week after the toddler became agitated during the take off.

The stressed out mom did her best to calm her son down with no help from the flight attendant who allegedly tugged on his seatbelt and even yelled at the autistic toddler.

The pilot allegedly made an announcement that embarrassed the mother even further that went something like.. "there is a woman and her child on the plane and the child is uncontrollable."

American Airlines has defended their position by saying that the autistic child was pitching a "raging fit."

I feel so sorry for this mother and the lack of sympathy that she experienced during the flight. It is almost unbelievable that people are still suffering discrimination for their disabilities in 2008. I hope that American Airlines is planning on compensating this mother for the obvious discrimination of the flight attendant and pilot involved.

You can read the full story and watch the video of Jarett and his mother here.

American Airlines did the right thing booting this selfish woman and her kid off the plane. There is no "discrimination against the disabled" here; if parents insist on mainstreaming their disabled kids into societal situations, they should be prepared for the consequences when they cannot adapt to those situations. A disruptive child, autistic or not, is a nuisance and a potential hazard to others on the flight. Sorry your kid's autistic, lady, but the world doesn't revolve around you and your offspring. Get over it and take the train.

The mother did not have any problem on the first flight. And she did prepare for the second flight by bringing toys to keep her son stimulated. I think it is a discrimination against the disabled if they cannot use public transportation. Just like regular people, people with disabilities sometimes need to go from point A to point B using public transportation including flights. There are places where flight is the only option.

I am saddened with the lack of understanding from people here.

This is surely a rude behavior shown toward Jarret Farell and with his mom. Airlines can take other moderate way to solve this problem if there happened any law breaking.
