Why I Blog On Blogger

I have had a whole lot of people telling me to switch from Blogger to Wordpress, and yes I do understand that having a privately hosted Wordpress blog is the best because you have complete control over your blog.

I personally do not enjoy the Wordpress platform, I do enjoy blogger. I am currently experimenting with Typepad and I love it. It is an easy user experience as well. Typepad offers increased security at a reasonable monthly price.

I have heard many horror stories about Blogger blogs disappearing, bloggers being locked out of their blogs, etc. Of course this worries me to some degree which is why I am now opening up blogs on different platforms. By using the blogger platform I am not automatically endorsing it for others. I think for many bloggers it works out just fine, but if you want ultimate security then look into having your blog privately hosted, or on a more secure host like that of Wordpress or Typepad.

The only negative thing I've yet to encounter with Blogger is the fact that if you have a private domain name you are only able to have one style of template, and you're looking at it. Blogger is a super easy blogging platform, and I think it's great for those learning how to blog.

I hope this answers the big question of why I use blogger. I like Blogger, that's why, but it isn't the only blogging platform I use.

Find out more about different blogging platforms to decide which is right for you.

Hey, Thank you for helping me try to figure all of this out! I thank my lucky stars that you're here!

I like blogger too, although I have nightmares about my blog disappearing! :(

Well if you're super worried you could try another platform. I really am not all that concerned about Blogger myself. I've heard nightmare stories about Wordpress too so I'm not so sure that any blogging platform is 100% safe.

Hope you're having a great day Ann:)

Christy, that was totally informational! I loved your reasoning for using blogger. I have a blog at word press but I guess I am a little dense I cant figure out certain things about it and just gave up on it. I also felt that as my Blog is growing by leaps and bounds here lately, thanks, in part to people such as yourself, for promoting it, I didn't want to have people losing me.
I guess I'm a chicken and don't trust in my popularity to draw people in to following me. I do love blogger and for right now I will stick to it. I own sugar queens dream dot com now, but still again can't figure it out. I bought it at go daddy for what thats worth. I consider myself to be a little educated in computer lingo but this has even me stumped LOL As far as my Blog disappearing I have never heard that so now I have a real fear! LOL
whatever your doing is working so keep it up girl!
Peace....

Hi Judy!

Thanks! You can use the domain name you bought on your Blogger blog, it isn't that hard at all. But of course you will be stuck with only one template choice.

I think that people would definitely follow you if you did ever decide to move though:)

That's awesome Judy! You're going to end up joining the A-Lister club soon! :)

It doesn't matter which platform you use. I'll still be a reader heh.

Well thank you Brown:)

Again, I agree with Brown :)
I'll read you anyway, Christy!

I am blogging on 3 different blog platforms now: free blogger on blogspot, free wordpress and an almost-free ($30/year) typepad (oem-version web-log.nl). Of course, they probably cannot be compared with the full versions, or with hosted stuff, but many people use them.
I find they all have their own peculiarities, especially in the editors.
What I don't like in one, is nice in the other, and vice versa.
They all do lack some real flexibility, some really friendly UI, some real WYSIWYG functionality, but all basically work fine.
Blogger is fine for the quick stuff, Typepad is fine as well, offering more features to make a post look more professional, but some simple tasks turn out to be ral chores. The free Wordpress is the least flexible in terms of editing, but that would probably change when buying plugins and addins.
In terms of the friendlyness of the commenting system, to me that is downright awful with blogger, reasonable/awful with TypePad and a considerable bit better with Wordpress.
What do you think, from an 'editing' point of view, about your own comparison, so far?
Jos:)

Well (please don't stone me wordpress users) but I like blogger the best. I wish we had the option of privately hosting our own blogger blogs. I would do it in a heartbeat. I find wordpress difficult, and because I'm already so busy I don't have the time to learn the system. If I had the time I'd love to, but I don't.

I really like Typepad so far but I'm not familiar with the commenting yet because my blogs are not yet finished. I like the way commenting on Wordpress blogs works. Blogger comments don't bother me at all, only the word verification on blogger, now that's annoying! I know you don't like the blogger layout for comments but I actually love it. Since everyone is so different I don't think there is a right or wrong, it's a personal preference, it's just the issue with how safe your blog host is, no one wants to lose their blog!

Christy said...

Oh Jos, I forgot to ask, what is it about the Blogger comment layout that you don't like?

Jos said...

Hi Christy,

I have MarketingReview on TypePad, you can check the way the commenting system works and looks there, if you like ;)

What I don't like about the blogger commenting system, is this:
a. It has a completely different 'look' and is not easy to modify so that it matches your blogs' "look-and-feel".
b. It has a relatively small window to type comments in.
c. It is totally 'away' from the post itself.
d. It lacks a preview-of-your-comment/edit-your-comment-before-final-submittal feature.
e. It shows the comments in a relatively narrow column, specially when people have a picture in their profile.
f. It caused regular 'freeze-ups' or even 'kick-outs' when clicking back after leaving comments.
I find the blogs that have the nicer commenting systems, such as e.g. Ordinary Folk, or Browns'blog, so much commenterfriendly.
If I had the chance right now, I would move NoDirectOn to wordpress immediately for the commenting system alone (but then I would have a deal new url, new technorati, new google stats, etc.)
Jos:)

I've never been booted out of Blogger comments but if that was always happening I wouldn't like it either!

I think Wordpress comments are better and I'll come and comment on your typepad and see what mysterious things happen, lol. I don't mind the layout of the blogger comments though, it doesn't bug me. Maybe I'm just easy to please:)

Oh Christy!! Me too, me too! Blogger works for me and my not too technical ways! Blogger has been quite easy for me to handle so far! I am looking into switching to Wordpress but I'd definitely need loads of help, I can't do it on my own! :)

Christy said...

Hi Mariuca! I feel the exact same way, maybe with some help Wordpress would work, but not alone!

Hi Christy, Your statement is true. But after loosing my blog with Blogger and someone stealing my URL and my blog returned with another URL, I feel a bit insecure with blogger. That's why I moved into Wordpress. But I have my Blogger account as well, because Wordpress do not offer the flexiblity of links and there is lot of restrictions if you do not move your blog into a dot.com domain. I would like to ask you where you host your blog. I am considering about creating a new blog with Blogger.

Hi Mahesha,

Blogger does not offer private hosting. All hosting is done by blogger, so if you're worried than don't do it. Have you tried Typepad, it's more secure but it's easier like Blogger. You pay a monthly fee and have a some peace of mind. :)
