New Community Messaging Feature At MyBlogLog

I love MyBlogLog, it's an incredible resource for bloggers. But I'm not too crazy about their new messaging feature. What may be great for smaller communities is not so great when you have hundreds of community members and you are receiving dozens of messages daily that aren't even directed towards you personally. Not quite spam, I'm sure many of the messages are very sincere but who has time to read that many messages to find out?

I love getting messages from MyBlogLog members, personal messages that are somewhat relevant to my blogs, and I love leaving personal messages for people. But this takes the personal out of the messages so what's the point? I feel that now the sincere messages we send each other will be lost in the midst of the spam.

I visit the MyBlogLog blog to find out what the community is thinking. Since I've been having MyBlogLog messages delivered directly to my email, I now have to cancel that feature, because it's ridiculous to receive that many email notifications when none of them are directed specifically towards you.

What I can't understand is that there is a daily limit for joining communities (and I wish there wasn't or I would be joining more) but they feel community messaging is great idea. MyBlogLog you are still my favorite blogging community but please give us the option to turn community messaging off.

Nice post, Christy!

I'm inviting you to read mine and other blogger's thoughts about this new messaging feature release by MyBlogLog.

Me, Andy Beard of Niche Marketing, Meg of Blogpond, Rob of Yank Yank! and a few other bloggers have added their opinions and you are more than welcome to be one of them.

Actually, I'm compiling a list of all the blog posts that discusses why the new MBL messaging feature is plain wrong without a single option to block those spam messages. I've already included your link in my blog post.

I and other bloggers who are the part of this on-going discussion on my blog will appreciate it if you let us know your thoughts.

Thanks

A quick note to let you know that the team pushed out a release earlier today that allows you to opt-out of Community Message emails. You can select it as an option at the bottom of your Profile page.

For more details, see my post on the MyBlogLog blog:

Hi Ian,

Thank you for setting us free!! I think it's great to have an option because a lot of people do like the community messaging feature (and a lot don't). So this will be perfect for everyone. I'll update my post soon, thank you for taking the time to let me know. I appreciate it.
