Link Love John Cow Dot Com Style

No that's not a spelling mistake there really is a John Cow blog (I love it) and there's a new blogger project for those who are wanting to get some link love and new subscribers.

Mark from The Next Post tagged me to pass this along, which I am doing on both of my main blogs. If you want to join just add a few of your friends and their subscription feeds to the list. You have to be willing to subscribe to all of the bloggers on the list, but if you want your subscription number to grow it will be worth the effort!

Here is the list to copy, check Mark's blog or John Cow Dot Com for the details! I've added this blog, Mike, Brown, Mark, Jos, and Bobby to the list. I think this is a great idea!

Woohoo-o. There goes being sceptical about this!
In the past 12 hours, most of which I was asleep, just posting this one list on my blog moved it up in Technorati range by more than 61.000. Amazing..

Christy said...

That's awesome! I've heard from a couple of people that the list is working, yippee!! :)

You should totally move away from blogger to power your blog. It's easy to switch to wordpress and I'd suggest doing that as soon as you can. Seriously.

I totally agree with you Jeff and I know that's the best thing, but I'm severely Wordpress challenged. I even own a privately hosted wordpress blog and it's useless to me. Hopefully in the future I will have time to get to know the system (I have no more time to invest now), I find Blogger extremely easy as well as google search friendly.

Your recommendations are appreciated, Thanks!:)

Oh, and Christy... It also got me in touch with a whole bunch of interesting blogs and bloggers (you know that's why ;-)

On the Blogger-issue: I have 5 blogs running on Blogger and one on an OEM-version of Wordpad. What I don't like so much about the blogger stuff, is a.o. the commenting part. That is not really 'open' and visitor-friendly, and it doesn't match the rest of the (possible) blog layouts (cf. Writer's Reviews, that looks great, but the comment section not so much).
And... specially with busy and large blogs such as Christy's, the commenting section seems to be kicking me - as a visitor - out of my browser.
The Wordpad thing is only somewhat better.
Everyone tells me to switch to Wordpress as well. But switching will be pretty much of a job to do, so before that.. any warnings why I should NOT use Wordpress?

Hi Jos,

Wordpress is supposed to be the best, but you need to be much more technologically inclined to use your own hosted Wordpress than blogger. There are stories of bloggers who woke up to find that their blogger blogs had disappeared or that blogger locked them out of their blogs temporarily, which of course is scary. How rare is this? I'm not sure, I'm hoping very rare.

Now I'm thinking I should give my blog a makeover. Maybe it's a bit too bland, I might try switching the template...hmmmm...

Jos said...

Hi Christy, I think Writer's Review looks fine! (except for maybe this comments bit)

Christy said...

LoL, it's too late!! I like this new template better, everything looks much more organized. What do you think?

Jos said...

This proves my point. I have been so afraid of getting 'kicked out' again, that I been too scared all this time to leave this comments box. Lol. I'm going to check it out now...

Jos said...

woooooo. that is a difference! that sure is a wiiiiide left column. Its seems to have doubled yer technorati authority number as well, or is it that I have been waiting in this comments box for a few minutes and now its gone up again? :-)
Is it a floating left column layout? If it is, on my screen here on the laptop, it is actually too wide for easy reading..

Christy said...

Does it really look super wide? On my computer it's the same size as Coffee Break. I don't have to scroll sideways or anything. Ummm...what to do...what to do...?

Jos said...

I'll send you a screendump jpg of the way I see it, via yr e-mail, ok?
I will also include one of Coffee Break.
BTW: how are you doing in finally getting started with that chocolate cake? or are you still dancing in that kitchen? :)

Jos said...

done. ignore the white parts on the right and bottom, that's just a result of the canvas being to large. what I see is what is in color. of course, what I see is much better quality than that jpg, so don't worry about that

Christy said...

Wow, wide is an understatement, ROFL, I will find another template later tonight, that's just scary!! Thank you for all your help Jos, that is super sweet of you!! :)

Jos said...

Youy're welcome, as long as I've earned myself a piece of that cake :)))

I've just checked this for you: the ideal number of characters in one line should be close to 80.
(See also "W3C".) Also, some search engines seem to truncate at 64 characters.

To "return the favour" can you dump and send me how you see Marketing Review and NoDir?

Jos said...

Whoopps. That about "80 characters" is my mistake. That applies to Titles... Will check out better tomorrow, when more awake ;-)

Jos said...

"anything from 45 to 75 characters" they say.

Jos said...

Now hey! This one looks nice! I like the color scheme you used!

Christy said...

I don't know how to dump, I haven't a clue how...uh oh...I don't know which one you liked because I changed it about four different times....oh great....I think I'm in big trouble now...yikes...

Jos said...

Hi Christy,
I have a couple of suggestions for you about how to modify this template. I will mail you about that tomorrow.
In the same time that you where doing this template change, I have changed for NoDirectOn a bit, too, and I discovered, probably just like you have, that some things can not be changed following the normal procedure. But I have found a couple of easy (for non-techies like you and me) workarounds that you may like. For example, since you use so many tags, it's actually quite simple to reduce the size of those tags in de message footer a little bit.
Talk to you tomorrow via e-mail.
Jos:)

Jos said...

Wo! Every time I come out of this little comment-box, you've changed the template again!

Are you sure you're off the medication? LoL...

You're definitely getting less freaky, now ;-)

Christy said...

Okay Jos, I'm leaving it like this for now, lol. Too much having to deal with colors for me!! Wow! Thanks again for your help, maybe you can teach me how to do blog dump pictures so I can take one of your blogs, I can guarantee you that none of your blogs are too wide, they are perfect for reading. Or I could always just mail you a cake!! :)

Christy said...

And yes, we'll talk more tomorrow...lol.

Jos said...

One more thing... You asked for a Dutch word last week, remember?

Here's a nice one for you:

The Dutch word for 'fun' is actually, really, honestly: "lol"
I know you won't believe this, but it's true.

No Kidding. Fun in Dutch is lol. And yes, it's pronounced as 'lol'.

Brown Baron said...

Fun in Dutch is lol? Haha that's great! What is shy in Dutch? Hehe

Jos said...

@Brown: hehehe. There IS no 'shy' in Dutch. :)

Jos said...

Christy, the way it looks now is Great! (unless you've changed it AGAIN as soon as I leave this comments box, lol )

Jos said...

@Brown & Christy:
I have another example.
I did this quiz today on Blogthings, and the result of 1 of them was that "my personality is rare".
The Dutch word "rare", or "raar", (pronounce: 'rar'), means weird and strange.
So now you know. My personality is not just rare.

Christy said...

Jos - That's cool that fun is lol, really cool.

Does that mean that you're rarely weird or strange, or that you're rare in a strangely weird way? Hmmm...

Brown - See, if you were dutch you wouldn't be allowed to be shy!

Jos said...

It means that whenever I see the word "rare" in some English text, my brain reads that as "weird".
Which can be very confusing.
For example when the former CEO of Bausch&Lomb wrote me that he considered my marketing strategy proposal (that I sent him for Ray-Ban global marketing) was "of rare quality". I actually thought for a minute or so that he was firing me. Lol.

Christy said...

ROFL!!! Ok, I see what you mean, I'm sorry but that's hilarious!!

Jos said...

Yeah, I have that... Always made fun of..

BTW, I noticed that the header "Writer's Reviews Awards", above the MAD-award, is still in that "happyfresh" blue you used when you were so heavily & happily medicated..) Lol

Christy said...

Oh great, I don't know exactly what the happy fresh blue looks like but it doesn't sound good at all...lol.

I just asked my daughter my blog colors, she says blue and purple. (screams) All I want is a blue and white blog, a navy type of blue. Is that so hard? Sure, it sounds easy. With the help of my daughter I think it now all matches. If anything is purple, that's NOT good, lol.

Oh and I changed my super huge tags too so I won't scare anyone....jeez...this is way too much work...lol.

Jos said...

Hi Christy!
And now you've changed everything to that blue? I liked the purple better :)
But, knowing that you have this color issue, this is definitely not a 'navy' kind of blue. It is a very bright blue. If I am correct it is color # 0066cc. Maybe you want to try # 004c99?
It feels kinda weird to tell you this, it seems so 'interfering', but I just mean well, and understand you have difficulties with seing colors.
Jos:)

Christy said...

Are you serious that this is a bright blue? I never wanted purple (not for this blog) just navy blue, like a serious color blue. I don't mind the links being brighter but not the titles. This absolutely sucks! Thank you for giving me the color code, it is the only hope I have. How seriously annoying!

I want a tasteful blue, even if it's not exactly navy...the keyword would be tasteful!

~~For anyone who is reading this and thinking I'm insane, I'm red/green colorblind....lol.

Thank you Jos for your help. You're not interfering by trying to help, it's very nice of you.

Christy said...

Ok Jos, my daughter came up with this purple/blue combination, and she swears that it matches (and that it's not bright)...I surely hope so! It all looks blue to me...lol.

Jos said...

Can I make a suggestion, here?
Download this EclipsPallette thing I sent yoy the link of. It's small and nicely working. Then you hover the probe (that's in the upper right corner of the application) over to the dress of that girl that is sitting behind that desk; your top picture. Click and it will display the digital number code of that color. Then enter that code in the color scheme where you change colors for this blog. This way, you'll get a perfect match. You can then also probe the color of the desk top she is sitting behind, and use that, e.g. as a text color. etc.
try it! it's fun :)

Christy said...

Hi Jos,

Thanks but I think I'm done with messing with my blog colors, I have to get back to my writing! If I spend all of my time on this soon I won't have any blogs! LOL.

Jos said...

I think it looks absolutely fine now:)

Christy said...

Thank you Jos, and that's good because I'm sick of changing it, lol.

Jos said...

Well, at least it all hasn't kept you away from being focussed on the writing at all. Lol. RRRReally Lol! And I'm sorry for trying to distract you so much :)
Just and update on this John Cow thing: it has moved up my Technorati range by more than 200.000 in 10 days. Thanks!

Christy said...

Wow that's awesome Jos! :)

Mariuca said...
