Meet Alan of Made To Be Great:

When did you first begin blogging?
It all started last Christmas. I was really feeling the impulse to do something useful with what I had learned all those years of studying philosophy and self-development. To contribute and give back in a bigger way. So I sat down, started writing, and haven't stopped. Tough I may have, if it weren't for the wonderful readers who support the site and cheer me on. God bless them!.
You are a very spiritual person, can you tell me a bit about your spiritual background?
I was raised Catholic, but while studying philosophy and reading about other religions, I saw that at heart they were really all One and the same, they all have the same aim, to reunite us with our Creator, to show us the way back home. So I just love all religions and really enjoy the diversity.
Do you recall a particular spiritual incident that has impacted your life in a positive way?
One incident I aways remember is the one about the homeless angel as I call him.
I was going through a hard time in my life, a time when I felt really bad and was just surrounding myself with all kinds of undesirable things. And out of my despair I made the firm commitment that I would stop believing in God, and in that very moment, I did.
Then as I was walking on my way to the University, out of nowhere comes this homeless person walking towards me, looking at me. All I thought at the moment was "Don't bother me, I don't have any money". And as he reached me he just shook my and and said "God loves you, and he has something very special prepared just for you" and walked away. I just stood there speechless. Moments later I felt the need to thank the man, but as I looked down the road for him, he was nowhere to be found. So that was the day God didn't quit on me.
How do you handle life's adversities?
Thankfully I have always had a more positive than negative look on life. So I tend to look at adversity and say "This too will pass". And it always does. I was the kid who when he hit himself instead of crying started laughing, I still do.
What do you hope to accomplish through blogging?
Just to make other people's life a little bit happier, a little bit more joyous. To uplift in any way I can so that everyone can walk a little bit taller and a little bit lighter on this wonderful world.
What are your dreams for the future?
Pure joy. Not just for me, but for everyone. I dream of smiles and laughs everywhere. Of beautiful surroundings and community. I love people, so I dream of lots and lots of people all happy and having fun all around me. Life is just so wonderful that I just cant think of anything else but of enjoying it each day more and more. This is my dream.
Thank you Alan for this inspiring interview!

I call it the Self-Sufficiency Syndrome. The name of my book is Help Is Not A Four-Letter Word: Why Doing It All Is Doing You In.
