I bleached my hair blond, then dyed it dark again, and then re-lightened it (to a red shade). Technically I should not have hair now, and most likely I wouldn't if it weren't for my daily conditioning practices.

I don't want to spend a lot of money on expensive salon conditioners and hair remedies so what I've done is tried out many different drug store conditioners until I found the ones that worked the best.
The cheapest conditioner that works really well is Sauve. Dove's moisturizing conditioner is also very good, and leaves your hair with a silky feel, and thirdly Infusium has a great moisturizing effect.
Because my hair is very damaged I leave the conditioner in my hair for at least five minutes before rinsing it out. You really don't need fancy deep conditioning treatments, just put a regular moisturizing conditioner in your hair after shampooing and leave it in for twenty minutes while you have a bubble bath, read a book etc. It has the same or better effect than the special conditioning treatments that you leave in for a few minutes.
If your hair is super fried like mine, one conditioner isn't enough so step two is to add a leave in conditioner to your hair while it is still damp. My first choice is Dove leave in conditioner but Infusium comes in a close second. I use the spray versions, as I find they are better than the leave in creams. To find out more about how hair works and how to prevent damaging your hair Salon Web has some great professional hair tips.
